I bought this as I saw an ancestor I am researching is in it. Indeed she is, but most of the info is about her husband. There are a lot of glowing terminology that would not be suitable in a modern reference work, but is to be expected of one written in this time period, both in terms of it being assembled long after the events, and probably most source material is taken from rather glowing eulogies of contemporary friends. I did pick up a couple of new tid bits. Wished it had also mentioned her parents, her children more. I don't know how else a lay researcher far distant from primary sources would find a better source for many of these women. It's good to be reminded and to remind others that women played a bigger role in the American Revolution that they are ever given credit for. Even if much of it was "only" suffering. They also served, and on both sides, may I add!There are a few markings and notes in margins that are original to the copy as digitized here. At first I thought they sent me a used copy. But it is what it is, and the value of the contents is not diminished by these markings. Just don't be surprised.
A bibliography would have helped book a lot.
If you are just looking for some good stories, this is a very good source. If you are looking for a specific person, the info may or may not be new to you. You might get lucky and find a particularly good write up on that woman!
Glad I bought it. For my use, it was closer to 3 stars but I am never giving it away! So 4 stars. Books like this are published as a service and you pay for the service, and accessibility of the content, not the content. Sometimes a book in hand is better than reading it on a device, but the devices get better, I suppose this may change in my lifetime.
