The town of Fleetwood is surrounded with murder and mystery as Cash Wheeler and his friends try to maintain their innocence of a deadly accident they weren’t involved in, years earlier, after a deadly street race claims the life of a friend. With the help of their boss, Clon Doosby, a famous car builder, and F.B.I. Agent Roman Turner, they form the Lead Foot Posse. Cash then tries to infiltrate an illegal racing circuit by entering his prized ’55 Chevy in a race, only the plan is foiled by an unexpected challenger. Roman then enlists the help of Emery Stewert, a hot rodder/detective, who is haunted by his tragic childhood. Emery not only falls for a possible enemy, but also finds himself and the posse on the trail of a duo of possible vigilantes who are terrorizing the Highway. Highway of Terror is a high octane story packed with mystery, suspense, friendship, and romance.

I'm not one for mysteries simply because most are quite predictable. I bought this book because of the Firebird on the cover and the promise of a hot rod theme. I was not disappointed in the car related writing through the whole book. It fit into the story and was not overdone so as to become tacky in it's presentation. It was modeled into the story in accurate detail enough to make it apparent that the author knows his stuff when it comes to cars and what would fit into the right spots of the story line to make it believable. In that aspect I was very pleased with the book.As for the mystery side of the novel I was quite pleasantly surprised. Save for one, every time I thought I had an angle figured out there was a twist that I was not expecting. I literally could not put the book down. I started it in the late afternoon and finished about dawn the next morning. When a plot twist would come at the end of a chapter I'd start reading the next "just a little bit" to find the answer and I would end up reading the entire next chapter. Enough times of that and I was exhausted the next day but satisfied with the end result. The car theme is great but it is not so over involved that it would hinder a non car lover in their enjoyment of the story.
To encompass both points it is a great novel and should be added to the collection of anyone who enjoys classic cars, good mystery novels or especially both.

This is a great read for all gearheads who love a good road rash mystery. This is not only for the 1950s American Graffiti greaser types but would appeal to the Fast and The Furious(Vin Diesel version)types as well.
